We’re going to talk about Covid-19.The Bill Gates Vaccine will get mentioned in the wrap up.
I was thinking today how the economic shut down might not have been a good response. Perhaps telling the most susceptible to self isolate and those with symptoms to quarantine was sufficient.(HINDSIGHT)
The rest of the economy probably could have stayed open. However, when the pandemic did make its way to our shores in the United States we had to go by what we knew at the time. We knew next to nothing thanks to China. It was the only call Pres Trump could make.
So what do we know now and what are we doing?
People are pitching a fit about masks. The truth is they offer SOME protection-even the CDC says that- but better to social distance. The mask is ONLY necessary IF you can’t get enough distance between you and other people. The mask does NOT protect the wearer.
It protects people you come into contact with in case you are infected. I don’t understand why people are saying they are not protected when that’s not the purpose of wearing one in the first place. It’s true-you’re not. It’s everyone else.
Why isn’t Pres Trump wearing a mask at the press breifings while the press is? Good question because every single person in that building, including the President, is tested every single day.
Begs the question: why IS the press corps wearing masks? If they tested positive they wouldn’t be there.
I’ve heard people say,if you’re fearful stay home. I’m not fearful but i’m not stupid either. My husband has several serious health conditions. If he contracted the virus it would definitely kill him.
He should stay home?
He was admitted to the hospital back in Nov 2019 right before Thanksgiving. He was gone for nearly 4 months. He spent Thanksgiving in the hospital,Christmas and New Years in a nursing home.
When he was finally sent home the virus was just being taken very seriously in the states. We self isolated for months from the time he was discharged.
Now this is a man who had just spent months isolated in a hospital staring at the 4 walls.Eventually he wanted to get out so he went for groceries -he got everything we would need for a long period and ONE large package of toilet paper.
He wore a mask. BTW,that one large package was enough. We had hand sanitizers and rubbing alcohol on hand anyway to prevent infection.
We were hand washing like crazy because of the infection he already had. We didn’t hoard though. There were other people that might need these items & we were fine. I digress;the point is, we DID isolate after that. You can only do it for so long.
So somebody out there, who has a point to prove by refusing to use a mask, would rather my husband continue to be stuck in the house or worse get infected. We couldn’t starve to death either.
Besides my husband being susceptible, let’s talk about other ppl who are susceptible. The virus can be deadly for people who are obese.
Look at our country. How much of our population is obese? Others in that same category are people with diabetes. How many people in our country have diabetes? How about high blood pressure and/or underlying heart problems? We have to admit that’s a lot of people and probably people we know.
Given all that,I would like to know what the big deal over a mask is?
I wish we didn’t have to do any of this stuff. It would be great to go back one day before the virus started spreading and put a stop to it in Wuhan.
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
I do know this,Pres Trump was on the ball. He ramped up our medical supplies. He gave any governor the equirpment they needed.
All they had to do was ask. He sent naval ships to provide hospital care in NY and CALIFORNIA. The USNS Comfort went to NYC.The USNS Mercy went to Los Angeles.
He kept the American ppl from going into a panic-or at least he tried to.
You would have thought the Democrats would have rallied around him in support. They were actually trying to impeach him.
When he put the travel ban in place they accused him of being racist/ xenophobic. The next thing we knew Antifa and BLM were torching the cities.
Now Speaker Pelosi has the nerve to call it the Trump Virus.Don’t get me started with her. We’re going to talk about her in a future post. She’s been no help through this crisis at all. Her Democrat cohorts have been MIA as well. Now, back to the virus:
How about that vaccine? Where are we at with that?
Pres Trump has the research fast tracked. He said he would be the first to get the vaccine once it’s developed.
I’m quoting a very anti Trump site for this information but the article itself appears to be unbiased and factual.
So many brutal viral diseases have been conquered by vaccination — smallpox, polio, mumps — that the technique seems all but infallible. But not all viral diseases are equally amenable to vaccination. “Some viruses are very easy to make a vaccine for, and some are very complicated,” says Adolfo García-Sastre, director of the Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “It depends on the specific characteristics of how the virus infects.”
Unfortunately, it seems that COVID-19 is on the difficult end of the scale.
A closely related virus of the same family, SARS, circulated in Asia from late 2002 to mid-2003 and killed more than 700 people. “They really are very similar viruses, both virulent and contagious,” says Rachel Roper, a professor of immunology at East Carolina University who took part in efforts to develop a SARS vaccine.
Given the similarities of the diseases, their response to vaccination would likely be close to identical.
The next question is, what is being done to produce a vaccine?
Again,i cite another anti Trump site with an article that appears to be free of bias and factual:
Research is happening at breakneck speed. About 140 are in early development, and around two dozen are now being tested on people in clinical trials.
Trials of the vaccine developed by Oxford University show it can trigger an immune response and a deal has been signed with AstraZeneca to supply 100 million doses in the UK alone.
The first human trial data back in May indicated the first eight patients taking part in a US study all produced antibodies that could neutralise the virus.
A group in China showed a vaccine was safe and led to protective antibodies being made. It is being made available to the Chinese military.
Other completely new approaches to vaccine development are in human trials.
However, no-one knows how effective any of these vaccines will be.
Now,the big question: how effective would herd immunity be?
For this question I’m citing the Mayo Clinic.
Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community (the herd) becomes immune to a disease, making the spread of disease from person to person unlikely. As a result, the whole community becomes protected — not just those who are immune.
Often, a percentage of the population must be capable of getting a disease in order for it to spread. This is called a threshold proportion. If the proportion of the population that is immune to the disease is greater than this threshold, the spread of the disease will decline. This is known as the herd immunity threshold.
What percentage of a community needs to be immune in order to achieve herd immunity? It varies from disease to disease. The more contagious a disease is, the greater the proportion of the population that needs to be immune to the disease to stop its spread. For example, the measles is a highly contagious illness. It’s estimated that 94% of the population must be immune to interrupt the chain of transmission.
There are two paths to herd immunity for COVID-19 — vaccines and infection.
However, there are some major problems with relying on community infection to create herd immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19. First, it isn’t yet clear if infection with the COVID-19 virus makes a person immune to future infection.
Even if infection with the COVID-19 virus creates long-lasting immunity, a large number of people would have to become infected to reach the herd immunity threshold. Experts estimate that in the U.S., 70% of the population — more than 200 million people — would have to recover from COVID-19 to halt the epidemic. If many people become sick with COVID-19 at once, the health care system could quickly become overwhelmed. This amount of infection could also lead to serious complications and millions of deaths, especially among older people and those who have chronic conditions.
Hope you noticed that there isn’t one mention of a Bill Gates vaccine in ANY of these articles. In fact there’s no mention of him at all in any of the many articles i scoured, to come up with these 2.
It doesn’t help the President nor our country to spread information we can’t be reasonably certain is accurate. All this does is put some people in a panic. Other people, given misinformation, make poor decisions. I’ve even heard people call the virus a hoax and that’s just plain assinine.
Our President gets all kinds of breifings. If there were such information out there he’d have had it long before we got it. I haven’t heard any RELIABLE reporters-people with no axe to grind against our President-mention a Gates vaccine. In fact,we’re not close enough to having a vaccine that we can even discuss whose vaccine it is.
The left had their conspiracy theories with the Russian Hoax and ppl like Van Jones with his 9/11 fabrication(called the 9/11 ‘truthers’).We have enough of them on the right too.
If there were anything to the conspiracies out there Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity both would be all over them.
My take then: wearing a mask if you need to is not a big deal. If you keep one person from getting ill or another from dying it’s worth it.
We have Marxists running our streets,an insurrection in the making,a coup in progress, people like Pelosi,Schumer,Romney,The Bushes and the Lincoln Project trying to take our President down. You have the media working for the Democrat party doing their best to take him out.
There is the Deep State, judges, justices and Never Trumpers relentlessly attacking the President no matter what good he does or how hard he works.
Can we please wear a mask if we are in a situation where we need to and take it for the small matter it really is?
What do i think of a governor mandating the masks for their state? I wish i knew the reasoning behind it.Voluntarily wear a mask? Yes. Mandate wearing a mask? No and probably counter intuitive. School openings? Sure. So far, all the data they’ve collected considers it safe. As for the retailers insisting customers wear a mask that is a seperate matter. A business has the right-they do have a responsibility to keep their employees safe. You’re not going to get into a hospital or doctor’s office without one. They must have good reason.
Retailers have other rules ie no shoes,no shirt and no service is one. They can’t sell tobacco products to customers under 18 and they can require proof.Resturants prohibit smoking on their property. Don’t like the insistence on a mask then find a business that doesn’t.
Social distance and continue to wash your hands isn’t a bad idea either. Think of the other contagious diseases, like the flu, we are also preventing with good practices.
One day the Covid-19 will be behind us.
I’m cautiously optimistic about that. I’m also concerned about my husband so we keep our outside contacts to a minimum. He gets out as much as possible just not in large crowds.
Let’s worry about defeating the Marxists,do what we have to do to defeat the virus and unite around getting Pres Trump re-elected before we lose our country.
I lose more sleep over that than about wearing a mask or Bill Gates. Will we get a vaccine if one is developed? Most likely. We’ll talk that over with our pcp when(and IF) the time comes.
