Cliven Bundy and Me. A message from Herman Cain

Cliven Bundy and me: His treatment by the BLM reminds me of my experience with the IRS
Published by: Herman Cain

Intimidation tactics.

I’m sure you’ve heard about this dispute in Nevada, where a rancher named Cliven Bundy was confronted by a virtual army of armed agents from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The whole thing is a dispute over very complicated laws concerning grazing rights, and the laws are too confusing for me to sit here and tell you who is right and who is wrong.

But the complicated nature of the law is a huge problem here, as it is when we deal with things like tax law. That’s why I have sympathy for Mr. Bundy. His issue with the BLM reminds me of one I had 20 years ago with the IRS. In both cases, an out-of-control federal agency uses intimidation tactics to accuse you of a violation of laws so complicated no one can even really understand them.

Harry Reid is playing a role here too, and as you might expect, it’s not on behalf of the private citizen who is crosshairs with the federal government. In his usual matter, Reid recently declared, “This is not over. We can’t have an American people that just violate the law and just walk away from it, so it’s not over.”

I love what a Bundy family member said about Reid:

“He doesn’t have enough moral fiber in his bones at all to see what happened, but we the people got together to make something right, and he needs to be kicked out of office even if he is the Senate Majority Leader. It doesn’t matter.”

Oh yes, sir, I could give you lots of other reasons Harry Reid needs to be gone.

I’ve heard conflicting reports that say the Bundys were encouraged by the government over 100 years ago to use that land for cattle grazing, and now the government is coming out saying, oh no, you owe some grazing fees. I don’t know what to believe, but I see that the Bundys are standing up against the federal government, and some of their neighbors came to their rescue.

Cliven Bundy described the day when he saw a massive platoon of BLM agents coming over a hill toward him. It was like a war zone.

“I’m not in Afghanistan,” he said. “I think I’m in Nevada.”

The BLM had decided to be heavy handed and use the Bundys to set an example. But some of their neighbors showed up, and they showed up with guns. The cited the Second Amendment’s statement that we need to maintain a well-regulated militia – and these folks were acting as a militia in the defense of their neighbor against government thuggery. Good for them.

So now the BLM say it is going to back off and use judicial and administrative procedures. That’s what they should have done in the first place! You don’t converge on a citizen of the country armed with firepower because of a dispute over a very complicated law.

This is the same problem we have with the tax code. The IRS can come at you and demand all kinds of information, and you never know if someone is out of bounds when they’re making these demands.

The IRS has 80,000 ways to intimidate people. The IRS can ask you for more and more and more information in order to intimidate people ad infinitum. You have no idea whether or not they are overstepping their bounds. If you decide to challenge the IRS, you’re going to have to pay for that legal challenge. And do you know how they’re going to fight that legal challenge? With our money. And they can drag it out over years, assuming you will just say “uncle” and give in.

Their audit of me, after I challenged Bill Clinton at a town hall meeting, lasted from 1996 through 1998. It started with them auditing 1994. Then they came back and said they needed to audit me for 1993, as well as 1995. All the while the meter is running on my tax attorney.

Finally they came back and said I owed $1.8 million! I had to make a decision as to whether I would fight this, which I did, and ultimately they dropped the claim, but demanded a “penalty” for the wrongdoing of which they accused me.

This is not right. People need to follow the law, but when the federal government is using intimidation tactics, all justified by extremely complex laws no one understands, this needs to be reined in. Our representatives in Congress – both the House and the Senate – should be standing up for citizens when stuff like this happens. If you live in Nevada, I guess you don’t have much hope of getting help from Harry Reid.

And from the way these government agencies have been acting lately, it doesn’t sound like they’re too intimidated by anyone, nor do they care much about the rights of American citizens.

No wonder people feel they have to come against them with guns. When the government gets like this, what else can you do?

Rosh Hashanah,Yom Kippur,Days of Awe

For Catholics today is Holy Thursday. Pope Francis celebrated Mass in Rome at the Don Gnochill facility for the aged and disabled. He washed the feet of 12 residents there. He gave his homily on following in the footsteps of Jesus in service.

ImageNow for a few words from Bob Fishman’s The Jewish roots of Catholicism Part III.At the end i’ll repost a link to the DVD for the series.

He began with Rosh Hashanah. They retell the story of Abraham and Issac.Issac means laughter. He was given this name because Abraham and his wife laughed when they were told they would have a son.

Abraham offers up Issac when God calls him.Abraham does not question God. He never said why or why me? The why never crosses his lips. He just obeys.Issac never questions Abraham, his father. He obeys him willingly. A ram is offered up instead.

That is Rosh Hashanah.

The common greeting on Rosh Hashanah is “Shanah Tovah”, which, in Hebrew, means “[have a] good year” or similar greetings. Thus, in Yiddish the greeting is “ah gut yohr” (“a good year”) or “ah gut gebentched yohr” (“a good blessed year”).

Next follows the Days of Awe. It is a time of prayer, fasting, reflection to be ready for Yom Kippur.During this time it is considered appropriate for Jews to practice Teshuvah (literally: “returning” or “repentance”) which is examining one’s ways, engaging in repentance and the improvement of their ways in anticipation of Yom Kippur. It means a return to  one’s self.An examination.

The Jews also go to the place where the dead are buried and pray that their ancestors help them. They could ask that the merits of those ancestors to help them.

They use a A yahrzeit candle also spelled yahrtzeit candle [or called a memorial candle [lit in memory of the dead] Judaism. It is also the Sabbath or another High Holy Day, the Yahrzeit should be lit before the other candles. The candles should extinguish themselves and not be blown out unless there is a fire danger. Other appropriate times to light the Yahrzeit candle are Yom Kippur, (the Day of Atonement); the last day of Sukkot, (a celebration of the harvest); the last day of Passover, (the celebration of freedom from slavery in Ancient Egypt); and the last day of Shavuot, (the celebration of the Torah).

Yom Kippur is the highest of the High Holy Days.During  Yom Kippur the priest would enter the Holy of Holies dressed in linen. He would have a rope tied. He would go in to offer up a  young bull for the sins of the priest and the priesthood.

In the Holy of Holies there would be 2 goats and a lot would be cast. There in the Holy of Holies would be the fragments of the 10 commandments, Aaron’s rod and the mercy seat. Once the lost was cast one goat would be killed and the blood sprinkled on the mercy seat.

The other goat would be set free in exile. This came to be known as the scapegoat. This offering was for the sins of the people.

Zechariah doesn’t go into the Holy Of Holies. Instead he stands outside  with the incense where the archangel Garbriel appears to him.

Then, to the right of the incense altar, an angel of the Lord appeared to him. 12 Zechariah was troubled and overcome with fear.

13 The angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife Elizabeth will have a son, and you will name him John.

In the Holy Of Holies

ark-within-the-holy-of-holithe ark of the covenant

The Tabernacle was erected in order that the Shekinah might dwell on earth and it actually entered the Holy of Holies.Shekinah refers to a dwelling or settling in a special sense, a dwelling or settling of  Divine Presence to the effect that, while in proximity to the Shekinah, the connection to God is more readily the future I will put up a blog entry with an article by Scott Hahn that shows how the Shekinah left and returns in Mary, the Theotokos.

note;if i misspelt any of these words, apologies. Sometimes the spell check comes up even when a word is spelled correctly, making it hard to tell if a word IS spelled incorrectly. i go by phonics 99.9% of the time and looking em up the 0ther 1%.With some of the notes i took from Bob Fishman i did an additional search to get more info.

Halo appears in Central Florida sky – Orlando Sentinel

No, you’re not imagining it.

If you’ve been outside today, you may have noticed what looks like a halo around the sun.

It’s called a 22 degree halo. Scientists describe it as an atmospheric phenomenon caused when light from the sun refracts through ice particles in the clouds.

“…My own personal flurry…”

The Easter prep is fully underway, and we are striving for a peaceful Easter.  Somehow I think it will be elusive this year.  There are so many little “peas in the mattress” of our lives right now that I am not sure how we will smoothly sail into Easter Sunday.  So I am burying myself in the preparatory portion of it.

St. Dimitri of RostovOnce in awhile (it seems to me) we need to regress to the simplest things.  We need to do away with the dross and the extras floating around us.  Sort of like one of those sensory deprivation tanks – we need to silence the chaos and we need to stop looking at the negative, and we need to focus ourselves on Christ.  For example, this week is called Holy Week for a reason.  We are preparing ourselves to welcome the Bridegroom.  It is the week of the ultimate sacrifice…

Dick Morris: Investigate 2012 vote fraud | TheHill

North Carolina, under the leadership of their Election Board Director Kim Strach, studied the rolls of those who voted there and compared them with data from 27 other states. The conclusion: 35,750 people who voted in North Carolina may have also voted in at least one other state in the 2012 election.

The duplicate vote finding is based on the people who voted in North Carolina having the same first and last names and the same birth dates as those voting in other states. In 765 cases, the last four digits of the voters’ Social Security numbers were identical as well.

The report is based on a study of 101 million voter records in 28 participating states. And because none of the four biggest states — California, Texas, Florida and New York — participated in the study, among others, a truly national study would likely have yielded a far larger number.

Because North Carolina makes for about 2.5 percent of America’s population, the projected number of actual double votes nationally could reach to 1 million.

Past allegations of fraud have all been based on voter registration data, indicating a vast potential for fraud, but without proof of actual double voting, there’s no hard evidence. But the North Carolina study focused only on those who actually cast ballots — far more important criteria.

Critics of the study point out that no voter fraud has been verified and no prosecutions have been brought. But these names will surely provide an investigatory bonanza for those willing to follow the trail.

The impetus for collecting national voting data and interfacing them for fraud comes from Kris Kobach, secretary of State in Kansas. Kobach initiated the interface, called the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program, in 2005.

Progressive Pulse blogger Chris Kromm charges that the results of studies by other states have produced much noise but few real results. But unless an aggressive investigation pursues these double votes, we will never know how serious the problem really is.

the sun is up and so are we

ImageObviously laid down last night and just couldn’t get back up again. I should know better by now. The notes are still here so the next step is to work them into the blog 🙂

PLS say a prayer for S Korea and the victims of the ferry accident as well as for the people of the Ukraine. Our feckless leader is no help to anyone. Yes,it does matter what happens there. Anyone recall WWII? Bill O Reilly said if Russia attacked a NATO country and NATO didn’t respond, that would be the end of NATO.i agree and with Obama not leading i guarantee NATO will NOT respond and that’s the end of the story.

Yes,the world looks bleak. How could they elect this guy? Oh yeah.Voter fraud on a massive scale was one reason.

Back in a few with a more uplifting post.Rosh Hashanah,Yom Kippur,10 days of Awe and then some.Have a good morning.Need a few cups of coffee first myself. The aide is here. She’s a tad late but that’s ok. Things happen.

Kerns: The Bundy Ranch beef is not over cattle, but Government control | Communities Digital News

LOS ANGELES, April 12, 2014 – A standoff raged out West this week between Federal agents and a self-described “stubborn old man” with 1,000 cows. Not all the legal issues are clear, but one thing is certain: This showdown had very little to do with head of cattle and everything to do with heads of state.

Michelle Malkin | » Debunking the Blame Righty propagandists…again

Here we go again. Liberal media outlets CNN and MSNBC have joined forces with the biased, numbers-cooking Southern Poverty Law Center and New America Foundation to foment renewed fear and hatred of conservative Americans.

Their latest talking point: “Right-wing” terrorists have caused more American deaths than Islamic jihadists since 9/11.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Husband went to a flea market over weekend. He can’t pass by a yard sale without stopping and he’s a fool for flea markets also.

Somehow he always manages to come back with some real find for me(so i can’t complain).

This time it was a bronze plaque of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I was thrilled and it went right up on the wall in the living room!

Here is an explanation of the icon. Needless to say my husband thought it was Latin-he thinks everything is Latin. It’s Greek.

ImageThe plaque he got would not show the colors, which are symbolic. Here then is the colored icon:
