Te Deum laudamus!: Canonization date announced for Blessed Popes John Paul II and John XXIII

From Vatican Radio

Francis on Monday morning held the Public Ordinary Consistory for the forthcoming Canonization of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. During the course of the Consistory in the Vatican’s Consistory Hall, the Pope decreed that his two predecessors will be raised to Sainthood on April 27, 2014, the day on which the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter and Divine Mercy.

The Unsettling Witness of Pope Francis | Catholic Lane

For a pontiff who is so big on emphasizing mercy, Pope Francis knows how to make me squirm. His witness for Christ turns the tables on my tendency to make my faith all about me. With a steady stream of up-ending spiritual remarks, the Holy Father has a way of capsizing my comfort zone. His shake-things-up style prompts me to reconsider everything I do as a Christian. As spiritual head of the Catholic Church, he wants me to understand the spirit of the law, not just the letter. He confronts me to not get comfortable in a prison of black and white thinking, but instead, be open to thinking in color. The unsettling message is this: the Christian life is supposed to be demanding, or it’s not worth much. And it’s not just what the pope says; he reinforces it with what he does. Just like Jesus did, the Holy Father will leave behind “little t” traditions, if they seem to no longer promote the kingdom of God. He explains the importance of discernment: “The wisdom of discernment redeems the necessary ambiguity of life and helps us find the most appropriate means, which do not always coincide with what looks great and strong.” He’s a WWJD What would Jesus do? man. The picture of him washing the feet of a Muslim woman prisoner perfectly captures one of his WWJD moments.Because canon law was not strictly adhered to, the pope’s foot-washing act of mercy was enough to give any conscientious canon lawyer a start. Nevertheless, as Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Pope Francis had the authority to do what he did. In spite of that, there was a considerable amount of sweaty hand-wringing all over the Catholic gossipsphere by gloomer and doomers who would love to trade Pope Francis in for a new model. They totally missed his message. Their reaction brought to mind the following Bible passage:

How Far Is It To Bethlehem?
by Frances A. Chesterton

How far is it to Bethlehem?
Not very far.
Shall we find the stable room
Lit by a star?

Can we see the little Child?
Is He within?
If we lift the wooden latch
May we go in?

May we stroke the creatures there
Ox, ass, or sheep?
May we peep like them and see
Jesus asleep?

If we touch His tiny hand
Will He awake?
Will He know we’ve come so far
Just for His sake?

Great kings have precious gifts
And we have naught
Little smiles and little tears
Are all we have brought.

For all weary children
Mary must weep
Here, on His bed of straw
Sleep, children, sleep.

God in His mother’s arms
Babes in the byre
Sleep, as they sleep who find
Their heart’s desire.

Obama and Thugs Pulled Off the Heist of the Century | TheBlaze.com

It is increasingly clear that the 2012 elections, both presidential and senate, were stolen by Obama, the Democratic Party, the IRS, and government employee unions. It’s right out of a mob movie like “The Godfather.”

The Obama Crime Family could give the mob lessons. Don Obama plays for keeps. The Don gets what he wants and when he found himself in danger of losing his power and control, Obama went to his enforcers – the IRS.

In a story reminiscent of the mob fixing union elections, the IRS enforcers conspired to destroy Don Obama’s main competition – the Tea Parties and other conservative fundraising groups.

Lois Lerner was only one of many IRS big shots in DC who gave orders to IRS offices across the U.S. to “kill” the Tea Parties and other conservative groups. Their goal – steal the election. As if only days ago, the “fall gal” retired from the IRS. We can only guess what kind of massive payoff she received from Obama’s donors.

The 2010 elections were the biggest embarrassment suffered by a U.S. President in modern history. The power, energy and passion of the Tea Party won the GOP an amazing 63 House seats, six Senate seats, six Governorships, and 680 seats in state legislatures. It was an historic landslide. Obama’s entire agenda was threatened.

Yet, the mainstream media expects us to believe that only two years later (2012) that Tea Party energy and passion was gone…overnight. Or, perhaps they changed back to fans of Obama and the Democratic Party. What a fairytale.

The real story is that the Obama administration ordered the IRS to delay, distract, hound, harass, and intimidate Tea Party groups across the U.S. Without IRS attacks and interference, Tea Parties would have had the same influence and momentum as 2010 – when their raging energy and passion led to a shocking landslide defeat for Obama and his allies.

There is no need to question or debate any longer. We now have emails from IRS officials stating exactly that – the Tea Parties had to be stopped if Democrats wanted to win the election.

And, conservative donations had to be stalled if Democrats wanted to retain control of the U.S. Senate.

Instead of massive Tea Party rallies and record-setting fundraising for conservative candidates, Tea Party groups were busy being distracted, hounded, harassed, and intimidated by the IRS. They were busy being asked about the names of their members, names of their speakers, content of their Facebook posts, and even the content of their prayers.

Conservative media personalities (like yours truly) were attacked with IRS audits, as were Pro-Life, Pro-Israel, and Pro-Constitution groups. The tax-deductible status of Tea Party groups was purposely stalled so they could not raise money for the 2012 election.

Defend us in Battle!

St. Michael, the Archangel – Feast day – September 29th The name Michael signifies “Who is like to God?” and was the warcry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against satan and his followers. Holy Scripture describes St. Michael as “one of the chief princes,” and leader of the forces of heaven in their triumph over the powers of hell. He has been especially honored and invoked as patron and protector by the Church from the time of the Apostles.

Although he is always called “the Archangel,” the Greek Fathers and many others place him over all the angels – as Prince of the Seraphim. SOURCE: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=308

Prayer To St Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the Divine power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..

Reading Francis Through Benedict: a workshop on misunderstanding Francis

Posted on 26 September 2013 by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

We now have in Francis the most wonderfulest and fluffliest Pope ehvur. Liberals are crowing that the bestest Pope of all is against rules. He’s chill about abortion and women’s ordination and, like, stuff. No other Pope has ever kissed a baby or thought about “the poor”. He is so original too! Only Francis could have thought up deemphasizing some controversial issues for a while to make the Church look friendlier and more inviting.

I bring to the honorable readership’s attention, again, a great papal quote:

“I remember, when I used go to Germany in the 1980s and ’90s, that I was asked to give interviews and I always knew the questions in advance. They concerned the ordination of women, contraception, abortion and other such constantly recurring problems. If we let ourselves be drawn into these discussions, the Church is then identified with certain commandments or prohibitions; we give the impression that we are moralists with a few somewhat antiquated convictions, and not even a hint of the true greatness of the faith appears. I therefore consider it essential always to highlight the greatness of our faith – a commitment from which we must not allow such situations to divert us. ” – Address of his Holiness Benedict XVI – Thursday, 9 November 2006

If you are wondering what Pope Francis is doing, this is what he is doing. He has taken a page from Benedict XVI’s play book. Francis, however, is giving this strategy far more energy than his predecessor.

But make no mistake: What Francis is doing is original in the extent of the application of the strategy, not in the strategy itself.

And may I remind you that we are only six months into Francis’ papacy and we already have:

an excommunication of the priest who supports “gay” marriage and women’s ordination

an extemporaneous jaunt into the streets of Rome to meet an anti-abortion march

an explicit affirmation of the impossibility of women’s ordination

a public endorsement of Summorum Pontificum

a speech to Catholic physicians not to perform or cooperate in abortions

a call for a “profound” theology about women (read: a good theology that isn’t, as he put it “female machismo”)

And, for good measure.

When it comes to ordinary pasta asciutta I prefer De Cecco to Barilla.

That said, I’ll be buying more Barilla for a while.

I was sent a link from The Guardian:

Pasta firm Barilla boycotted over ‘classic family’ remarks

Chairman Guido Barilla causes outrage in Italy after saying he would not consider using a gay family to advertise his products

Images of a recent Mass of Benedict XVIPosted on 27 September 2013 by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf On YouTube someone posted a filmette of still photos of Benedict XVI saying Mass on 1 September with some of his old students. You might remember that for many years he would meet with some former hah… current! pupils for some days of study, a Schulkreis. The music is the spectacular Te Deum of the Maîtrise Notre Dame de Paris.May I add that I would really like to have a daily account of what Benedict XVI might be preaching during his morning Mass? After all, if Francis’ fervorini aren’t part of his ordinary Magisterium, then Benedict’s would have just the same level of magisterial authority. But they would be authoritative in another sense.

Meet the Republican Turncoats who Voted for Cloture to Fund Obamacare | The Tea Party News Network | TPNN.com

Senators from both parties joined together on Friday to vote for cloture and pass a continuing resolution that would fund Obamacare.Despite Senator Ted Cruz’ 21-hour speech just days prior warning of the dangers of funding the healthcare overhaul that serves as a model of economic instability, establishment Republicans have been incredibly hostile to the maneuver as Cruz’ speech shined a harsh, exposing light on the Republican efforts to posture as opponents of Obamacare while still allowing it to be funded. With 25 Republican Senators voting for the funding of Obamacare, the vote easily passed to avert a shutdown with a vote of 79-19.
